Increasing Climate Resilience for Coastal Communities

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) announced a new grant award aimed at supporting climate resiliency projects in Washington State, funded through the federal Inflation Reduction Act.

NOAA is awarding $73.6 million to the Washington Department of Ecology and their partners, including Snohomish Conservation District (SCD), to protect Washington’s coastal communities from climate-related hazards.

With this funding, SCD will work to reduce flood risks for 400 acres of farmland between Ebey and Swans Trail sloughs and improve juvenile salmon rearing habitat in 1.5 miles of Swans Trail Slough in the Snohomish River watershed. Learn more about the coastal projects being funded by NOAA here.
