NOAA Funds Habitat Restoration Along Snohomish & Stillaguamish Rivers

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is recommending over $200 million in funding for 32 transformational habitat restoration and coastal resilience projects this year, as well as an additional $66 million in funding in future years. See NOAA’s announcement here.

The projects are funded under the Biden-Harris Administration’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and Inflation Reduction Act. This is a historic investment in strengthening the climate resilience of our nation’s coastal ecosystems and communities.

NOAA is awarding up to $10.1 million over three years to Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife and their partners, including Snohomish Conservation District (SCD). With this funding, SCD will continue work in the Snohomish and Stillaguamish Rivers within the Whidbey Basin, supporting Sustainable Lands Strategy partner efforts.

This grant builds on a previous funding award and allows SCD to maximize our impact on riparian forest health through riparian planting and agroforestry and continue to share landowner and partner stories through the Sustainable Lands Strategy communications and outreach work.
