Roy’s educational background is in chemistry. Driven by an avid desire to understand how our planet functions, he has studied biogeochemistry at UC San Diego and UW, learning how chemicals and nutrients move and transform throughout the ecosphere. When his chosen field wasn’t supplying enough time outside, he moved into horticulture, adding a degree from Edmonds college and spent 20+ years practicing ex-situ conservation with the UW Botanic Gardens.
What do you like about living in the Pacific Northwest?
In the PNW I feel immersed in life. All five senses are constantly letting me know that I am a part of something much greater than myself.
Why do you work here (at the District)?
I enjoy being a part of a team with the goal of enhancing diversity in nature. The old World Wildlife Fund tagline of “Saving Life on Earth” kind of says it all.
