Haly Rylko enjoys managing a variety of natural resource projects for the Community Conservation Team at SCD. She has a Masters of Ecological Design and Planning from the Conway School. This was preceded by a Bachelors Degree in Environmental Science and Terrestrial Resource Management from the University of Washington and a certificate in Low Impact Development Design from the Washington Stormwater Center.

Previously she has been a crew supervisor for the Washington Conservation Corps, implementing salmon habitat restoration projects in urban and rural areas for the King Conservation District. Her curiosity about regenerative landscape management and design has led her to also hold positions in green stormwater infrastructure construction, vegetable and oyster farming.

What do you like about living in the Pacific Northwest?

I like that on a clear day, the sight of the mountains capped with a fresh layer of snow is still stunning to see after 30 years of being here. I also appreciate the invitation of a rainy day to cook and read.

Why do you work here (at the District)?

I appreciate that SCD has such a wide variety of natural resource projects and approaches to managing them. I was also drawn to SCD because of its unique position as a non-regulatory resource to offer guidance and assistance to folks who would like it.

Bonus fact!

  • I like to go for trail runs with my dog, Buoy.

  • I once found a pearl in an oyster.
