Carol Axtelle graduated from Hawaii Pacific University in 2021 with a B.S. in Environmental Science. She comes to the Snohomish Conservation District ready to gain knowledge and experience, as this is her first job in the environmental field, and she hopes to go back to school for graduate studies in freshwater and terrestrial ecology in the future. Her hobbies outside of fieldwork include hiking, reading, kayaking, riding and training horses, and training service dogs.

What do you like about living in the Pacific Northwest?

I love the access to so many different outdoor activities. With the ocean, mountains, and lakes so close by you can hike, swim, kayak, and many other things within minutes of home. Bonus points for being able to drive to eastern Washington for desert activities!

Why do you work here (at the District)?

I work at the Conservation District because I have a passion for wildlife and the outdoors. Being able to be outside and actively working to improve environmental conditions every day is everything I could ask for in a career. Being able to share this passion with not only my coworkers, but the community as well, is the cherry on top.

Bonus fact!

  • I have trained two service dogs for Canine Companions and started this hobby at the age of 11. My first service dog in training attended every day of middle school with me.

  • I can play six different instruments including piano, viola, violin, cello, guitar, and ukulele.
