6th Annual Youth Art Contest Announced
/The theme for our 6th Annual Youth Art Contest is aquatic macroinvertebrates!
Aquatic macroinvertebrates, aka water bugs, are important indicators of water quality and a key source of food for fish and other aquatic organisms. Common examples include mayflies, dragonflies, and water beetles.
Help us celebrate the importance of aquatic macroinvertebrates by parctipating in our Youth Art Contest! The contest is open to pre-K through 12th grade. Participants must be a resident or student of Snohomish County or Camano Island. Submissions will be accepted online February 6-17, 2023.
We plan to display all the entries at our Annual Plant Sale (March 4 and 5) where we sell a wide variety of native plants that—like macroinvertebrates—play an important role in water quality.
Snohomish Conservation District staff will determine 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in several grade categories and announce these winners after the Plant Sale.
To get started, check out these resources about macroinvertebrates and tutorials on how to draw them. You can also take a look at the winners of last year's contest for inspiration. We look forward to seeing your submission!
