Remington Jackson grew up in San Diego, California and received a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies and Biology from UC Santa Cruz. He spent three years as a horticulturist working for a botanic garden and several native plant nurseries, worked three seasons as a field botanist for the USFS and USGS across the Intermountain West and Southwest, and then moved to Snohomish County where he led habitat restoration crews for two years at a landscaping company.

What do you like about living in the Pacific Northwest?

I enjoy the wealth of recreational opportunities and diverse flora that Washington has to offer. I feel fortunate to be able to hike, backpack, surf, and ski all within a few hours drive. I also love botanizing across the state, following the bloom season from March in the shrub steppe to the Puget lowlands and finally the mountains in summer.

Why do you work here?

The district is a unique agency because it provides its constituents with the knowledge and resources to better steward natural resources where they live. This mission aligns with my passion for habitat restoration and desire to help local residents and build connections with the community.

Bonus fact(s)!

  • I have been an avid grower of cacti and succulents since I was a kid and have expanded my collection and propagation efforts to Western bulbs, carnivorous plants, and PNW natives in the last few years.

  • I also completed my first thru hike in August 2023, 170+ miles on the Tahoe Rim Trail and hopefully more to come!
