Scout Kirby | Seasonal Environmental Educator

Contact Scout at skirby@snohomishcd.org.

Scout grew up in Minnesota and moved out West after studying Wildlife Ecology and Agricultural & Applied Economics at the University of Wisconsin Madison. She has been teaching environmental and outdoor education since 2018 and enjoys incorporating as much outside time and play in her teaching as possible. She uses environmental education to communicate her passions for science, conservation, and the environment, and foster curiosity and environmental stewardship with the students she works with.

What do you like about living in the Pacific Northwest?

So far, I have really enjoyed the variety of amazing food, the lush greenery, and foggy morning drives. I'm looking forward to getting to know the natural history of Washington more and exploring the amazing parks in the state.

Why do you work here (at the District)?

Working with and educating students (especially younger kiddos) about nature and how to protect the natural spaces around them is very important to me. Working for the District enables me to seek resources to continue to grow as an educator and share my passions for appreciating and protecting the environment in my favorite way.

Bonus fact(s)!

I've explored 33 US National Parks and hope to have visited all of them someday!
