2020 Plant Sale Update Due to COVID-19 - Walk Up Sale on March 21st Canceled
/Due to COVID-19 (aka the coronavirus), we made many modifications to our Annual Plant Sale. Read on to learn about our contingency plans.
Snohomish Conservation District is fully aware of the evolving health situation related to the Coronavirus (COVID-19). We, like many other organizations, are reviewing our upcoming events and trying to reduce the risk of potential exposure to our Plant Sale customers and staff.
Our local leaders have declared emergency situations to help keep our communities healthy. You can view their press conference from Thursday, March 5th here.
Out of an abundance of caution, we have decided to CANCEL the general walk-up sale on March 21st.
Previous good news… from original update on March 6, 2020
We will be reopening pre-orders again on the morning of Monday, March 9th and they'll be open until the evening of Sunday, March 15th, to sell off remaining plant inventory and to give those individuals who missed the first go around a chance to buy plants.
If you had wanted huckleberries, and they were sold out, we have refreshed our inventory for the Evergreen and Red varieties. When pre-orders open on Monday, those two plants will no longer show "Sold Out."
Pre-Orders Will Be Open (Again) March 9 through 15
Again, we have decided to go with a Pre-Order Sale ONLY. We are NOT offering the option to show up, peruse the plants and buy on the day of. Sadly, this also means that we will not have vendors present. It will be a bare bones pick up event.
So, if you still want plants from us, pre-order next week. On Monday morning, March 9th, you can do so on the website - www.theplantsale.org - or by giving us a call at 425-335-5634 ext. 4. When we sell out of items, we sell out. And, there are some plants that did sell out when we first opened sales in January. When you peruse the shop, you'll see a "Sold Out" banner at the top of the plant image. So, we apologize in advance if the plant you want is already gone. We will not be getting more.
Staggered Pickups
In order to address the need to keep groups of people smaller than 50, we will be offering staggered pickups for plants starting on Friday, March 20th. If you elect to pre-order - either through the website or by calling our office - we will ask that you come during one of these times.
Friday the 20th from 12:30 - 4:30 pm
Saturday the 21st from 8:30 am - 4:30 pm, or
Monday the 23rd from 10 am - 7 pm.
Please note that if we start to form lines, we will kindly ask you to wait in your vehicle until the line has cleared.
Again, all of this assumes that you are illness free.
Health Guidelines
The leading guidance from health officials is to keep ourselves and others safe by following common sense tips such as good hand washing hygiene and staying home when sick, which are available on the Department of Health website. We highly encourage our Plant Sale patrons to take these steps:
Frequently wash your hands for a minimum of 20 seconds throughout the day;
If you aren’t feeling well, stay home;
If you have children and they are experiencing any symptoms please keep them home from school; and
If you are over the age of 60, or have a compromised immune system please avoid public gatherings like our Plant Sale and non-essential travel outside the home. Contact us and we’ll figure out a solution.
To learn more, our local health partners have information about the virus on their websites:
Snohomish Health District provides updates on coronavirus in Snohomish County, frequently-asked-questions, and useful resources. They are posting frequent updates on their Twitter and Facebook accounts, and also produced a useful guide for businesses.
Island County Public Health is also providing updates on coronavirus in Island County.
Washington State Department of Health offers resources and recommendations. They also have established a call center to answer public questions about the virus. That number is: 1-800-525-0127.
Center for Disease Control has background information about the virus, its status globally, and materials tailored for specific audience groups.
In Closing
We made it through the snowpocalypse of 2019 and we’ll make it through this. The natural environment needs these plants and we all need to get outside!
So, again, we have canceled the walk-up sale on March 21st, but if you pre-order plants next week, you'll be able to pick them up on the staggered scheduled listed below.
Thank you for your patience with us as we navigate another contingency-filled Plant Sale.
