Summer Daugherty earned her Bachelor’s degree in Forestry, with an emphasis in Hydrology and Soils, from the Cal Poly Humboldt (Humboldt State University) of California. Prior to relocating from California to Washington in 2022, she worked at the Humboldt County Department of Public Works as a Senior Environmental Analyst where she coordinated, implemented, and directed a variety of natural resource management and environmental and planning projects, including integrated floodplain projects on agricultural landscapes. She previously worked at the Humboldt County Resource Conservation District and as a Soil Conservationist at NRCS. Summer grew up on her grandparent’s dairy in Fortuna, California on the redwood coast.
What do you like about living in the Pacific Northwest?
I’m excited about the abundance of recreational opportunities, hiking and backpacking trails, and water bodies to swim in.
Why do you work here (at the District)?
I am passionate about sustainable land management and working with those that actively manage lands and enhance ecosystem health.

I am an avid backpacker and mycophile, I’m a certified scuba diver, I was an elected official in in the city I lived in in Northern CA, and I’ve spent many summer weekends guiding whitewater rafting trips down the Trinity, Smith, and Klamath Rivers in Northern CA.
