Ryan has put his BS in Agricultural Engineering to good use while previously spending 15 years at SCD and nearly 9 more working at two different environmental consulting firms. His design experience includes water quality projects on a wide variety of commercial and non-commercial farms and fish passage and/or habitat improvement projects in estuaries, creeks, rivers, and wetlands. He served on a flood control district for 6 years and has helped flood control, drainage, and diking districts replace and/or retrofit tide gates and pumps for fish passage and drainage and repair or upgrade their levee system.
What do you like about living in the Pacific Northwest?
I am willing to put up with a lot of gray days to enjoy the lush vegetation and the bright blue skies that show up after the rain goes away. I have visited and come home from many places that have extreme cold, heat + humidity, nasty bugs, dangerous animals, and tornados and each time feel fortunate that we don't have those things in abundance.
Why do you work here (at the District)?
I love helping people solve challenging problems on their working farms or rural property.
- The property that I live on has been in my family for 100 years.
