Tour of Old Town Wetland in Arlington

  • Arlington, WA United States (map)

We’ll start this event with an introduction of the recently released Puget Sound Urban Tree Canopy and Stormwater Management Handbook, which brought together urban forestry and stormwater professionals to investigate stormwater solutions through urban tree canopies. Each participant will receive a hard copy to take home!

Then we’ll see stormwater solutions in action with a tour of the City of Arlington's 10+ acre Old Town Wetland. The four cells composing the wetland are designed to deposit sediment and litter; filter and store nutrients; foster the photodegradation of chemicals; lower water temperatures; restore dissolved oxygen; recharge groundwater; and enhance summer baseflow in the Stillaguamish River.

Stormwater and water resources staff from the City of Arlington will guide us through the ‘stormwater park’—which includes a network of trails—to observe the features and benefits provided by the wetland and its vegetation.
