Family Fun in Lake Stevens, Plus Who Won the 2021 Cascade Award

Since we began the Cascade Award recognition in 2018, we have gone on a tour around the lake and even online to present this lake-friendly gardening award. We’ve been to Stitch Lake, the Joe Rantz Boathouse in partnership with North Cascades Crew, and virtually on Zoom for a Lake Stevens City Council Meeting. This year, after years of anticipation, we were able to present the award in person at the renovated and beautiful North Cove Park.

Our nominees this year feature a former nominee, Sally LaBay; a relatively new to the Lake Stevens area family, Shaun, Amber and Brennen Terry; and long-time resident and native plant champion, Dick Todd.

Thank you to Mayor Brett Gailey for joining us to present the award!

And now, introducing our 2021 Cascade Award winner… Dick Todd!

“I Love Lake” Presents a Rain Barrel Painting Event

Tied to the event this year, we wanted to do something fun outside at the park. So, we decided to host a rain barrel painting party. Snohomish Conservation District usually sells rain barrels throughout the year. With COVID-19, we have limited our access to partner sponsored events. In this case, the district did the building of the barrels and prepared them for paint. THANK YOU, TAYLOR! (Learn how to do this on your own here.) And, then at the event, families were given lots of fun supplies to decorate their barrel however they liked.

Lake Stevens has talent!
