Looking Back on "Earth Month," Including a Webinar Archive!

At Snohomish Conservation District (SCD), every day is Earth Day. And, this month, we were literally and virtually everywhere. :-) Below is a sampling of our webinars and events held just during the month of April. If you missed any, feel free to watch the replays and share with friends and family to help educate them about protecting our home.

City of Mountlake Terrace Natural Yard Care Webinar featuring David Jackson from SCD

This spring we did two webinars for Mountlake Terrace including Alternatives to Lawn and this one on Natural Yard Care. We’ve been encouraged in hearing that residents are putting these practices to use. Everyone can start small and make a big impact.

Jardinería con un Propósito - featured presenter Gonzalo Yepes

Estamos agradecidos de tener un hablante nativo de español para compartir prácticas de jardinería sostenible. ¡Gracias Gonzalo!

City of Everett Spring Garden Design webinar featuring Emily Bishton

We addressed the interrelated topics of native plants, preventing stormwater runoff, backyard habitat and growing your own food.

Lake Stevens Hop Around Town - Rain Barrel Winner, Emily

Check out the winner of our Hopping Around Lake Stevens Easter Egg Hunt with her new rain barrel from us! Handpainted by members of the SCD's Youth Education team, Lily Cason, Youth Education Coordinator, and Mary Hale, 2018-2019 Washington Service Corps Member / Youth Educator, it will make a charming addition to her vegetable garden.

Rain barrels are a wonderful way to capture water on your property for use later on and per the Washington Department of Ecology they are legal and encouraged! The Snohomish Conservation District sells rain barrels through their various events, workshops, the annual Plant Sale, and via our website for pick up at their Lake Stevens office. City of Lynnwood’s Earth Day Extravaganza

In partnership with the City of Lynnwood, SCD (David and Kari) participated in their drive-thru event featuring pre-ordered rain barrels from us, free compost, and shredding. In total 74 barrels went out into the community to collect rainwater and prevent runoff. It was also fun to work with our former SCD colleague, Cameron Coronado.

Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Everett Earth Day Drive-Thru

We had good weather and handed over lots of 'green' items to 85 cars. Plus, it was awesome to see well over 100 kids show up with their families in those cars! Kari from SCD gave out pollinator seed packets (maracas) and information and stickers from our Lawns to Lettuce and Plant A Row program.
