SCD Recruiting High School Students for Natural Resources Competition

Washington State Envirothon is an environmental and natural resource conservation competition for high school students. Teams of students compete in five natural resource topic areas, engage with diverse environmental issues and learn from natural resource professionals. Envirothon participants gain valuable knowledge and training in ecology and natural resource management principles and practices. Many students step away from the Envirothon experience excited about learning and motivated to pursue careers in environmental studies, environmental law, natural sciences and natural resource management.

Snohomish Conservation District (SCD) is recruiting Snohomish County and Camano Island educators and high school students interested in participating in this year’s competition. As your local conservation district, SCD will be a helpful resource throughout participating teams Envirothon journey. SCD can help organize virtual presentations, curriculum and workshops with technical experts to help support teams through the Envirothon journey.

The 2021 Washington State Envirothon High School competition will be held in Spring 2021. With last year’s cancellation due to COVID-19, the Washington State Envirothon committee is looking forward to this year’s competition and have made accommodations to support remote and hybrid teaching. To best ensure the health and safety of all involved, WA Envirothon 2021 will be a statewide virtual competition, with no regional competitions or in-person field days. The state winner will represent Washington at the national competition, held in Nebraska this July (subject to change due to COVID-19).
