We asked several local community gardens and food banks about what would be most useful, and this is what they had to say.

Community Gardens

Materials for making hoop houses over raised garden beds, which includes: rebar, ¾” PVC which usually is used in 6’ sections, and clear greenhouse plastic UV-resistant film. Other helpful materials are:

  • organic compost

  • wash tables

  • equipment

  • volunteers

  • tractors

  • basic garden tools

  • watering cans

  • stakes to mark rows

  • shade cloth

  • coffee bags for mulching

  • hose reels

Food Banks

Some food organizations like Hungry Hearts use backpacks to discreetly transport food for students on the free and reduced lunch program. Other helpful materials are:

  • food (perishable and non-perishable)

  • volunteer hours

  • vegetable seeds

  • fridges or freezers
