Soil Challenges in Western Washington (Plus Pie!)

  • Stillaguamish Grange 6521 Pioneer Highway Stanwood, WA, 98292 United States (map)

We want to hear from you!

Join us for a pie social and talk with two new WSU Extension specialists who want to hear from local farmers about your concerns and/or challenges with the soils of Western Washington

Deirdre Griffin-LaHue focuses her research on agricultural practice and soil health with a concentration on soil organisms and how they facilitate the many functions of a healthy soil such as nutrient cycling and disease suppression.

Gabriel LaHue focuses his research on soil-water dynamics, soil fertility, and water-nutrient interactions; looking into infiltration and hydraulic conductivity and attempting to find more efficient ways to maximize hydrology in soils through the extremes of our very wet winters and very dry summers.

The evening will start with Deirdre and Gabriel introducing themselves and their areas of research and then will open up for discussion on soil management challenges, concerns, and questions.

Eric Schuh of the Snohomish Conservation District will also be introducing our new cost sharing program for fall 2019 for cover crop establishment.
