Gray Whales of Puget Sound

Hunted nearly to extinction twice in their history, gray whales have made an amazing comeback. In 1994 they became the first whale species to be removed from the U.S. Endangered Species List. Their astonishing yearly migration, proximity to coastal areas, and their gentle and curious nature have made gray whales a favorite along the coast of North America from Alaska to Baja. Cindy Hansen, Education and Events Coordinator with Orca Network, will discuss the biology and behavior of gray whales and their role in the ecosystem Wednesday, November 15, 7 p.m. at the Island County Multipurpose Center (Blue Building), 141 N East Camano Drive. Learn about their history with humankind, from the whaling days to their current “friendly” behavior. The Camano Wildlife Habitat Project, sponsored by Friends of Camano Island Parks, hosts public presentations the third Wednesday of the month.
