Growing Groceries: Growing Tree Fruit

  • WSU Snohomish County Extension 600 128th Street Southeast Everett, WA, 98208 United States (map)

You’ll learn about the basics of tree fruit production including variety and rootstock selection, nutrient management, and basic care. Attendees will also receive a copy of the Fruit Handbook for Western Washington.

Instructor Gary Moulton, now retired after leading the Fruit Horticulture program at the Washington State University Research Station in Mt. Vernon since 1991, holds a master’s from WSU in plant pathology specializing in fruit diseases, and a bachelor’s in pomology/fruit science from Cal-Poly San Luis Obispo.

Currently a consultant to the Western Washington tree fruit and wine grape industries, Moulton is known as the ‘go-to’ person on raising high-quality fruit and wine grapes on the “wetside” of Washington State. In addition, he maintains a highly productive small orchard and vineyard in northwest Skagit County.

No matter if you only have a tiny apartment deck, small garden space, or plenty of acreage you can grow fresh, healthy food in a healthier, more environmentally friendly way.

The WSU Snohomish County Growing Groceries program brings beginning and experienced gardeners together with speakers and topics focused on growing healthy food using sustainable gardening practices.

Developed over the last several years, the program’s goal is to increase our communities’ access to fresh, healthy food by teaching the latest research-based techniques for growing food.
