Funding Available through AWEP

On April 2, 2010, the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) announced a request for proposals for the Agricultural Water Enhancement Program (AWEP). Approximately $20.7 million is available for AWEP projects. The notice seeks proposals from potential partners to enter into partnership agreements with NRCS. Once NRCS announces the selected proposals, agricultural producers located in approved project areas can apply for AWEP assistance through their local NRCS offices. The Program provides technical and financial assistance to agricultural producers to implement water enhancement projects for conserving surface and ground water and improving water quality. Only agricultural producers are eligible for AWEP payments.

Grants and Micro-Loans to Sustainable and Organic Farmers

HumanLinks Foundation, a WA state non-profit, was established to promote sustainable agricultural practices. The foundation has a long history of supporting sustainable and organic farming organizations in the state. The Foundation is funding two new programs that will provide immediate financial support to local farmers. The first program is a grant program for those farmers that were impacted by the recent floods. The second program will focus on micro-loan assistance to sustainable farmers in need.

Criteria will use to determine the grants and loans:
1) Must be organic and sustainable farmers;
2) Immediate needs for infrastructure and equipment losses
3) Can $2,500-$5,000 make a difference in your operation right now?

We would like to implement these programs as soon as possible. We will be accepting applications through March 9th for those who want to participate in the first phase. We plan to distribute the funds in two phases.

Please email nancy@21acres.org for an application. You can also call 206-442-2061 if you have questions.
