District Manager - Monte Marti

Monte 2011

Monte comes to the District with more than 25 years as a manager at Verizon Northwest. He has also served as a District Board Member for 25 years and worked for the District in the 1980's.  Monte holds a Bechelor of Science degree in Agricultural Economics and a Master of Arts degree in Agricultural Economics, both from Washington State University. He has served on the WACD Plant Material Center Board of Directors, as a Northwest Area Director, and as a WACD Board member. Monte lives in Lake Stevens with his wife Carole and their two sons.

Lead Farm Planner - Bobbi Lindemulder

Bobbi Farm Tour

Bobbi has been at the district since 1997. She is the Lead Small Farm Planner and currently serves as the acting District Manager. She spends a good deal of time on a variety of farms including: beef, horse, sheep, llama, goat, alpaca and on commercial stables.  Bobbi serves on the Washington Association of Conservation District’s Livestock Committee, where she helps develop statewide programs for livestock issues. She has a BS degree in Range Management from Montana State University and previously worked for the forest service in Chelan. Bobbi was selected as the Washington Association of District Employee’s ‘Employee of the Year’ in 2005 and the Northwest Area Employee of the Year in 2008.

Engineering -

Kelly Cahill

Kelly C

Kelly Cahill is a Civil Engineer and a graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology. He has worked as an engineering technician and professional engineer with the Forest Service and Natural Resource Conservation Service for the past 30 years. He also had his own engineering company. Kelly appreciates the opportunity to work with landowners, farmers and agencies dedicated to improving and maintaining their operations while sustaining natural resources.

Derek Hann

Derek

Derek Hann is a Civil Engineer (EIT) who will be assisting with the Low Impact Development program for the District. He graduated from the University of Idaho in 2006 with a BS in Civil Engineering. Derek has worked in the private development sector for four years, focusing on Low Impact Development projects. He has created multiple plans for rain gardens, pervious pavement roadways, bio-infiltration swales, filter strips, and constructed wetlands.

Information & Education Coordinator - Lois Ruskell

Lois

Lois has been with the district since 1989. She originally started out as a dairy technician and planner. Lois coordinates the district publications, web site, media information and workshops. She manages the youth program which includes Envirothon and Natural Resources Youth Camp and the annual plant sale. She received the State WACD Employee of the Year award in 1998 and the Northwest Area Employee of the Year award in 2007. She has a BS in Ag Industry from Arizona State University and is a graduate of the AgForestry Leadership program, class 30. She toured China with the Agforestry class in January, 2009.

Habitat Restoration Specialist - Ryan Williams

Ryan 2011 Plant Sale

Ryan Williams works with rural and urban landowners to restore habitat and reduce development impacts. He provides technical assistance for wetlands, native plants and riparian areas and is the CREP program technician for Snohomish County and Camano Island. He has a BA from the University of Washington in Environmental Studies, specializing in Restoration Ecology and Wetland Science.

Grants Administrator - Julie Allen

Julie handles the ever increasing financial management workload for the district. She comes to us after 23 years with Seafirst Bank. She and her husband George own a farm west of Snohomish and raise horses.

Julie has three sons, Mike, Chris and Nathan.

Dairy Planner/Certified Farm Planner - Alan Shank

Alan with veggie

Alan is a certified dairy planner for the district. He has a BA in Liberal Arts from Principia College, a BS in Agribusiness from Illinois State, and a MS in Agricultural Economics from Ohio State. Alan also has his own small farm, with his wife Mary, in the Mukilteo area.  Alan is a graduate of the Ag Forestry Leadership program, class 26. As part of the two-year program, he toured China extensively and visited Washington D.C.

Certified Farm Planner - Megan O'Brian

Megan

Megan is the small farm planner for the Bear – Evans watershed. She helps landowners with technical assistance and produces a variety of small farm plans for the Bear Creek and Evans Creek sub-basins. She was previously employed as a Conservation Specialist with the Windward Oahu and West Oahu Soil and Water Conservation District in Hawaii. She received her BS in Global Environmental Science from the University of Hawaii at Manoa – School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology.

Stillaguamish Farm Planner - Caitlin Price

Caitlin is the small farm planner for the Stillaguamish watershed. She supports landowners with technical assistance and farm planning, and works with a wide range of partners to address the identified resource concerns within the watershed. Before coming to the Conservation District, she worked as a ranch manager and summer camp director at Ekone Ranch in Goldendale. She has also worked as a research assistant on several projects for WSU Extension. Caitlin holds a B.S. in Animal Science and an M.S. in Soil Science, both from WSU. Her thesis research project was focused on large animal mortality composting research and education. She is also a Certified Livestock Adviser (WSU Extension) and has completed the Compost Facility Operator Training through the Washington Organics Recycling Council.

Water Quality - William Bowe

Bill Bowe

Bill grew up on a dryland wheat, barley and cattle farm in Walla Walla County. He graduated from WSU with a B.S. in Agronomy. Bill worked in the sugar cane fields of Hawaii, working for Amfac, Inc. and its subsidiary plantations on the islands of Maui and Kauai.  There, he designed and oversaw the installation of drip irrigation systems that replaced traditional furrow irrigation methods used for sugar cane.

After four years in Hawaii, Bill came back to the mainland to work for the Agricultural Engineering Department at WSU in Pullman, where he stayed for 31 years. Bill worked on crop modeling and installing soil moisture sensors and weather stations, along with water quality monitoring using water discharge and temperature devices. While at WSU, Bill took coursework in statistics, soil physics and related subjects as well. He has also worked with ag drainage districts in King County on best management practices.

Bill joined SCD in September, 2009 and works mostly on the Stillaguamish and Miller-Pilchuck TMDL grants, Bear Creek and Fish Creek water quality grants, and water assessments associated with the WSU-Qualco digester project. Bill's wife Sue recently retired from teaching in Pullman.

LID Specialist - Stacy Aleksich

Stacy Unloading Plants

Stacy is the Low Impact Development Specialist. She holds a BS and MS in Environmental Science from the University of Idaho. She is experienced in stormwater management; erosion and sediment control; and Low Impact Development techniques. Stacy has five years experience working with landowners, local governments, and contractors on stormwater issues in Western Washington, most recently at the Whidbey Island Conservation District.

Urban Forester/Resource Planner - Leif Fixen

Leif Leif is an urban forester who came to the District from South Dakota. Leif holds a BS in Forestry and Agronomy from South Dakota State University and spent five years as the City of Boston's Urban Forester. Leif will be coordinating the Firewise program and assuming the lead on the District's annual plant sale.  He will also be in the field helping farmers, foresters, and landowners with other issues. Leif lives in Seattle with his wife Katie.
