Notice of Appointed Position Open

Notice of Elected Position - 2012

An election for a board seat on the Snohomish Conservation District Board of Supervisors will be held on March 20, 2012 at the Snohomish Conservation District office, 528 91st Ave NE, Lake Stevens, WA.

Polls will open at 2:00 PM and close at 6:00 PM. Registered voters who reside within the Conservation District boundary are eligible to vote.

Candidates for the position must be registered voters residing in the conservation district, and may be required to own land or operate a farm.

A conservation district supervisor is a public official who serves without compensation and who sets policy and direction for the conservation district. The filing deadline to run for this position is February 21, 2012.

Election procedures are available at the District office or from the Washington State Conservation Commission. Absentee ballots are available upon request for eligible voters, but must be requested on or before February 21, 2012, and must be returned by 6:00 PM March 20, 2012.

Notice of Appointed Position - 2012

Snohomish Conservation District has one appointed volunteer position open for a three-year term on its Board of Supervisors. The Washington State Conservation Commission makes the appointment. To be eligible, a candidate must be a registered voter and must own or occupy land within the Conservation District boundary, which includes most of Snohomish County and Camano Island. A conservation district supervisor is a public official who serves without compensation and who sets policy and direction for the conservation district. Published appointment procedures can be viewed at the District office and are available from the Washington State Conservation Commission.

 

Anyone interested in serving as a volunteer supervisor should contact Snohomish Conservation District at (425) 335-5634, Ext.4 or the Washington State Conservation Commission at (360) 407-6200 for a nomination petition and more information. Snohomish Conservation District is a political sub-division of state government that has been working with farmers and landowners since 1941. District boundaries include Camano Island (added in 1961) and most of Snohomish County.

Mission Statement

Snohomish Conservation District’s mission is to work cooperatively with others to promote and encourage conservation and responsible use of natural resources.

Board Meetings

Board meetings are held on the third Tuesday of every month at 6:00 PM in the conference room of the District offices in Lake Stevens. Check here for changes in this schedule or for cancellations.

Assessments

Snohomish County - SCD received approval for an assessment of $5 per parcel and $.05 per acre for five years, beginning in 2010.

Island County/Camano Island - SCD received an assessment of $5 per parcel to fund services for residents of Camano Island, beginning in 2010. It will run for ten years.

Elections

* For information on the SCD Supervisor election, or to nominate a person for the three-year, volunteer term, please contact the SCD Election Official, Cam Allen, at 425-335-5634, ext 102.

To vote in the SCD election, you must:

1.) Be a qualified elector of Snohomish or Island County and

2) Occupy land as an owner, lessee, renter, or tenant lying within the Snohomish Conservation District, which includes all of unincorporated Snohomish County, Camano Island, and the following cities that have requested to be in the District or were incorporated after the District was formed:

Arlington, Brier, Lake Stevens, Lynnwood, Mill Creek, Mountlake Terrace, Mukilteo, Snohomish, Stanwood, and Woodway.
